Have you ever had a time when you opened the food cabinet and locked eyes on something you knew wasn’t good for you, but ate it anyway? You know like a potato chip or a “Fannie Mae” meltaway. You start out thinking MODERATION, I’ll eat one…then half way through the box of chocolates or bag of chips you think, what the heck I might as well finish ‘em!
Well this past weekend that happened to me, but it was Girl Scout cookies. I started out with just a couple, you know “Thin Mints” (interesting name…I’ve eaten a lot of these and never got any thinner). I’m not sure what I expected, because after I ate a “few” (code for many) I decided…”what the heck I’ll finish ‘em” (If you don’t like Girl Scout cookies, this also works with Oreos). This was quite an endeavor since we have 19 boxes of Girl Scout cookies!! No I didn’t eat all 19 boxes; not for a lack of trying mind you. I ate a lot, but soon ran out of time because I was going to bed. Right now the Genesis Transformation Coaches are gasping while the rest of you are nodding your heads because you know what I’m talking about.
Okay, so the next day was time to talk with my “coach” (whom I really adore, she ROCKS). Anyway as I told her the story, while sniffling and feeling my joints aching, something dawned on me. My Coach was right…we are physically affected by what we eat!! Food not only affects our weight and waistline but our overall HEALTH. My Coach is smart like two people!!!
Then I had another thought, this is like the scene in the movie the “Matrix” when NEO (Keanu Reeves) meets Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) for the first time. Neo is offered either the Blue Pill (to return to his known existence) or the Red Pill (which provides the TRUTH). I realized I have eaten the “red pill” now it’s time to take accountability for my actions. If it’s going to be it’s up to me…how about you?…choose wisely my friend.

LOVE the article Mark! THANK YOU for sharing this. I especially loved your comment regarding gasping coaches – and I’m sure a few gasps happened – but I found myself nodding along. We all work with this ‘MODERATION MYTH’ and I like the way you illustrated it.
