Just Breathe

“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.” –Jim Rohn

I love this quote in relation to my journey with Genesis Transformation.  I understand change is scary.  Believe me, I feel like I have a PhD in change and what it feels like to shift profoundly courtesy of life’s little surprises.  The best advice I can give to anyone whether they are starting with day one of change, or day 10,001, is to breathe!  And when I say breathe, I  mean breathe through your nose…yes, just like we hear when someone starts getting all wound up and someone else says…man..chill, breathe through your nose.   Taking deep breathes, slowly in and out through our noses actually taps into our parasympathetic nervous system, calming us, slowing our heart rate, lowering blood pressure and it allows our thoughts to be clearer and more rational.

When we feel ourselves getting anxious because our coach suggests removing our beloved (insert name of out favorite chip, cookie, soda, etc. here), the best thing a person can do is to just breathe.  When a coach says I want you to start exercising or slow down your exercise, yep, slow down cardio,  embrace those words and breathe!  Change tends to cause each of us to become anxious delving deep into our primitive brains and “fight or flight” kicks in.  While that is incredibly helpful when fighting a T-Rex, it isn’t so productive in thinking rationally and embracing change.

It has been said over and over again, in different ways, but change requires change!  As human beings we have to change, if not we would still be a mass of cells waiting to change into an embryo, fetus, newborn, toddler, pre-teen, teenager, adult and so on.  No matter how much we fight the changes of aging, those changes occur.  I remember at one point in my life saying I can’t wait to grow up and later, wishing time would slow down.  The only part of that I can control in reality is how present I am in my own daily life, what I choose to give importance to, and how at peace I am in understanding that life, relationships and so much more continue to evolve in positive or negative ways and whether I choose to embrace change or resist it.

When I choose to change my HEALTH, my body and my life, whether I realized it fully on day one or not, but I was COMMITTING to embracing CHANGE.  While the journey has not been without bumps in the road or swerves off the path, the payoff has been PRICELESS on so many levels.

So remember why you started this journey, embrace even the smallest of changes, and breathe!
