The True Cost of Transformation

CourtneyHow you continue to live your life IS a choice and I know your mama taught you that every choice has a price.

What is excellent health worth to you?  What is it costing you to NOT improve your health right now?

This isn’t a sales pitch for my services (although I do believe they are well worth the asking price).  This is where the journey begins: you taking full responsibility for your choices (the good, the bad and the ugly).

A transformation starts to sprout ONLY when you commit to getting down and dirty and, above all, REAL with what you say you want for your health and, ultimately, for your life, then agree to pay the price to get it.

As a health coach/personal trainer/fire starter, I hear clients in the initial stages of their process enthusiastically profess what it is that they want for their health: to lose 50lbs, to run a marathon, to fit into the sassy jeans they haven’t worn in 8 (or 18) years.  And it is enough to get them rolling in the direction of progress.

A few weeks later?  You know the drill…enthusiasm wanes, the spark flickers out, and resistance starts to rear its nasty head.  Reality does a fierce smack down of all good intentions.   A rude awakening occurs that there is a cost to changing your life and the cost is…well…CHANGING YOUR LIFE!

Transformation does not allow you to negotiate or rationalize your behavior.  You do it or your don’t.  Transformation demands that you shed parts of your life that are not in alignment with your goals and rebuild parts of your life that are better suited for the person you are striving to become.

It is hard work?  Yep.

Get over it.  Anything worth having is!

Maybe it is changing the way you eat, the way you move, the people you hang out with, what you do on Fridays after work or how early you go to bed at night.  Maybe, it is all of the above and more.  What needs to change is different for everyone, but make no mistake, “change” is the price of up-leveling yourself.

The desire to become your best will push you onto a platform of bigger possibility. Recognizing what it will cost you to stay where you are, to NOT change, helps you to find the courage to shimmy to the  edge and eventually take the leap.

Transforming yourself is not a “one toe in” commitment.  No.   Transformation requires the grit of a “polar plunge”.

CHANGING YOUR HEALTH STORY WILL COST YOU:

  • TIME
  • ENERGY
  • MONEY
  • BELIEFS
  • COMFORT

NOT IMPROVING YOUR HEALTH STORY WILL ALSO COST YOU:

  • QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR LOVED ONES
  • DIGNITY AND SELF-RESPECT
  • A LIFE OF PASSION AND ADVENTURE
  • DREAMS UNREALIZED
  • THE ABILITY TO PARTICIPATE FULLY
  • THE CONTRIBUTION OF YOUR BEST WORK

Now, here’s the simple part.  Weigh the costs and make a choice.

Yes, it really is that simple.  Not making a choice is just resistance buying time.

So what will it be?

Will you take responsibility for your health starting today, or put your health in someone else’s hands later?

Are you willing to say no to certain obligations to make time to move your body around and prepare healthy meals ?  Or will you continue to berate yourself every day for feeling lousy and not doing anything about it?

Will you take the time to educate yourself about how to take better care of body or live out the rest of your life wondering what it would be like to play full out as the remarkable woman that you know yourself to be?

Kind of a no brainer if you ask me.

TRY IT ON:

  1. Make a list of 5 things it will cost you to stay in your current state of health.
  2. Make a list of 5 things it may cost you to start reclaiming your health.
  3. Weigh the costs and decide TODAY the price you are willing to pay.
  4. Complete the following phrase so it deeply resonates with you and makes you excited about what you are trying to accomplish.  Recite it any time you are tempted to do something that is out of line with what you are striving to achieve for your health and fitness.
