I do not eat  for fat loss.  It’s pretty darn easy for me to maintain a very healthy weight  in a reliable zone; it’s just how I live.  I eat this way to Live. I enjoy feeling good.  I maintain a high level of health-oriented habits so that when Life invariably hits, ‘how I roll’ is a no-brainer.

This winter I found myself out of balance.  Not surprising, really, with the number of high stress Life situations that presented themselves.  There’d been a fire, some couch surfing, a resulting huge lifestyle change, a brand new business, other business growth, and family drama.  I got married, and two weeks later my youngest sister suicided.  In short, a host of stuff both delightful and decidedly not in a relatively short period of time (it didn’t help that I spent the winter without sun.)  Due to my health history, my physical well being absolutely hinges on whether or not I get enough rest – and this winter what my brain thought was enough rest was not in sync with what my body required.   My immune system balked and rolled over onto it’s back with a whimpering whine.

More rest required.

Herewith, a recent planned Wednesday rest day:  (In italics, my ‘normal’ roll, when my physical system is not in distress.)

5 am:  David brings me fresh squeezed lemon in water and I get up. When I am more rested my norm is 4 am and I’m bringing HIM lemon water in bed.

5:15 – 6:00:  Meditation.  With more rest I prefer a solid hour to 1.5 hours.

6:00-7:00:  Coffee (half decaf) and a pot of tulsi and hibiscus tea.  David and I visit and line out the day.  This includes his listening to what I want to do and cutting it in half for me. I head to the kitchen and juice vegetables. Normally David doesn’t feel the need to clear my calendar, and lately he or Samantha will also check in during the day to make sure I’m not sneakily working.

7:00 – 8:00 Breakfast is 4 eggs poached in homemade chicken broth and 12 oz of fresh green juice, and I feed the dogs (raw meat).

8:00- 10:00 Walk the dogs for an hour, and address my email along with other computer related daily tasks. I drink a smoothie (3 raw eggs, 1 cup raspberries, maca, olive oil, bee pollen and water). When I’m solid with my rest some yoga, body weight or weight training happens about now.

10:00- 11:00 Straighten the house, lie down for about 15 minutes,  and talk on the phone.

11:00 Various computer related tasks; check in with my very pregnant daughter.

11:45   Salmon sauteed in lemon olive oil, homemade mayo, and 12 oz green juice.  Another pot of tea, this time a rooibos.  I sit with my knitting and music, curled up by the fire.

2:00 Grass fed/finished burger with dried olives and a lot of lettuce drenched in a robust olive oil and some fresh lemon.  I do some reading until my head starts to nod.

3:00-5:00 Nap.  I don’t mean to sleep this long but am committed to sleeping as much as I need to.  This is not a norm.

5:00 -6:30 dinner prep, kitchen cleaning and dinner.  Roasted whole chicken with roasted veggies, salad, and Pellegrino bubbly water.

7:00-9:00 a game of Mexican Train with David, and then knitting along with an episode of the British version of Shameless.

9:00 – 10:00 Reading and bed.  _MG_3864
